Museum Visitors Span the Globe

The first four months of weekend operations at the Hollywood Heritage Museum have brought people in from around the world, including: Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Korea, England, France, Germany, Romania, Taiwan, Sweden, Scotland, Italy, The Netherlands, and Belgium. Domestic visitors have come from throughout California as well as Ohio, New Mexico, Illinois, Michigan, Arizona, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Hawaii, Florida, and Utah.

Not bad, especially when one considers we spent nothing on advertising as we continue to work on the museum. With air conditioning finally a reality, thanks to the generosity of Johnny Grant and the Hollywood Historic Trust (see article page 1), we feel a little better promoting the museum (the weekend before the air came on, the temperature inside was 97°F), so a new brochure will be out by the end of the year.

The museum's visitors, whether on a planned stop or just seeing that we're open and dropping by, have all been enchanted with the building's restoration and ever growing exhibits on display. An average tour takes about 45 minutes. Members are always free (including a guest) and are encouraged to visit the museum, which their continuing support helps make possible.

Museum volunteers are very much needed to expand our hours. Here is your chance to tell the public about the history of Hollywood, about the silent movies, and about the people and the studios, especially those involved with “the barn”DeMille, Lasky, Goldwyn, Zukor, and Paramount—that created the entertainment industry. Visitors do ask questions and are very interested in Hollywood and its history. They are often knowledgeable about silent movies and the people who made them, which makes it as interesting for the volunteers as it is for the visitors. Please call Robert Nudelman at (323) 874-2276 between 11-4 on weekends if you are able to volunteer at the museum or, at (323) 463-6418 during the week.
