Hollywood realtor Diana Knoll took the lead in penning the successful nomination of the graceful Vista Del Mar Steps, c. 1920. The Franklin-Hollywood Hills Community Council and Argyle Civic Association created a partnership to sponsor the designation, with moral support from the Beachwood Canyon Improvement Association and (a modest amount) Hollywood Heritage.
The steps are located at the 90-degree turn in Vista Del Mar, just up from Franklin Avenue and are a walking route to Hollymont. Until recently they have been a study in deferred maintenance but, with the help of the kids of Operation Clean and Green and a few (isn’t it always The Few!) industrious adults, the steps are in the process of being restored to their former glory. If you’re in the neighborhood and it’s a clear day they are a wonderful spot to contemplate the universe…or Hollywood…whichever comes first.
