Author Emily Leider will discuss and sign her new biography Dark Lover: The Life and Death of Rudolph Valentino accompanied by a showing of Society Sensation (1918), an early, pre-fame ‘2-reeler,’ and a display of lobby cards for this film.
Emily Leider is author of two acclaimed biographies touching on shifting sex roles in the American 1920s: California’s Daughter: Gertrude Atherton, tracked the life of an outspoken (woman) writer. Becoming Mae West (1997) was chosen as one of the best biographies of the year by the Los Angeles Times and has been optioned for a movie. Dark Lover...has been hailed by Vanity Fair as a “rich, definitive biography,” written with “grace, wit and empathy.”
