Many of you, especially Santa Monica residents, may be aware of the recent No on Prop K campaign mounted in Santa Monica in response to an effort by real estate developers and lawyers to set aside Santa Monica’s 26-year old Historic Preservation law and allow individual owners to opt-out of Historic Preservation Overlay Zones and sidestep any efforts at preservation. The vote was Santa Monica’s first mail-in ballot and preservation prevailed! Hollywood Heritage did its bit by contributing to the campaign war chest and ‘volunteering’ its president to ring doorbells and make phone calls.
