County Proposes Landmark Designation For New Bowl

In a move that shows just what the county government thinks of preservation, Los Angeles County is applying to the National Park Service for national landmark recognition for the Hollywood Bowl. This despite the fact that there now remain no structures that would qualify under the rules for historic designation. A major opponent of our lawsuit to save the 1929 Shell, LA Times music critic Mark Swed, is now attacking the sound (6-28, 7-17), video projection and scale of the new shell, repeating arguments that we brought in our lawsuit.
