Hippies in BH No Cause for Alarm
Beverly Hills residents whose sphincter muscles have been twitching
in alarm over a reported invasion of hippie-psychedelic types in the city can
relaxÑit ain't so. Police Chief C. H. Anderson said that many oddball types arrested
on Sunset Strip and West Los Angeles must report for trial in the Beverly Hills
municipal court. Often, he noted, they are accompanied by witnesses of like types.
Those long-haired defendants often must wait several hours for trial, and hence
are seen on the streets, giving rise to rumors that Beverly Hills is becoming
a hippie haunt. So far as police can determine, there are no hippie "pads" in
Beverly Hills, and the court visitors do not live here.
