DeMille's Favorite Office Item

 

According to his autobiography, DeMille claimed his favorite piece of furniture in his office was a wooden wastepaper basket that was placed beneath his desk. The barn building was still partly in use by Mr. Stern for his horses and in the evening, when the ranch hands would wash down the barn floor, DeMille found it necessary to quickly place his feet in the wastepaper basket to avoid getting them wet.
