Did you know Hollywood Heritage has an extensive collection of postcards in our archive of Hollywood and Los Angeles? And we keep finding more!
Hollywood Heritage has partnered with Girl Scouts from Greater Los Angeles to help us archive this collection. The girls will earn their Silver Award which is the highest honor a Cadette Girl Scout (grades 6-9) can earn. The award is achieved by completing a sustaining project that benefits the community and addresses an issue the Scout is interested in. The Silver Award can be achieved solo or in a small group and for this project, we had two hard working girls. Not only are they doing a sustaining project, in this case, the archiving of postcards will be available as a resource for future historians and public, but they are also learning a lot about the history of Los Angeles and Hollywood.
On September 15, the two Scouts will be at the barn from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm showcasing some of the postcards in the Hollywood Heritage archive. At noon, the Scouts will be doing a presentation on the history of postcards and what they learned from working in an archive and their project.
There will be snacks and refreshments.
